La Trappe Quadrupel Oak Aged Batch 22 2015 - 37.5 CL

BATCH 22 (blended on October 30, 2015) was distributed as follows: Type BATCH Single Malt Whiskey Casks 83% Acacia Wood Medium Toast 9% New Oak Medium Toast 4% New Oak High Toast 4% Oak Aged Batch 22 was matured primarily on German Single Malt barrels. This whiskey is considerably smoother and less 'peated' than its Scotch counterparts, making batch 22 much smoother than the previous batches matured in whiskey casks. In addition to the malty and smoked aroma, the scent of banana, vanilla, honey, apple and blossom can also be distinguished. The whiskey is clearly present but not dominant, so La Trappe Quadrupel is still clearly recognizable. This results in a balanced fusion of flavors, releasing aromas of almond and smoke. Batch 22 is full of flavor and very complex; new flavor associations seem to emerge with every sip. The alcohol is clearly present in the aftertaste, together with the bitterness of wood tannin, which lingers for a while. This may not be the most extreme batch, but its complexity and overall balanced taste mean brewers can really recommend it.
